Mr. Terrence Murphy

Welcome to Physical Education and Health

Course Description:

Physical Education at MMS aims to provide you with the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities designed to enhance your active lifestyle. We intend to create a safe environment that will encourage you to develop skills necessary to participate, confidently, in various fitness activities.

Cardiovascular fitness is extremely important in leading a healthy lifestyle. In an effort to encourage optimal cardiovascular fitness, all students will participate in weekly runs. Students will be instructed as to proper running form and how to condition themselves to exercise at he most effective pace.Other activities offered in P. E. will include Fitnessgram testing, fitness activities, team sports, and recreational activities.

All students will be required to dress appropriately for physical education.Athletic shoes are the only acceptable footwear allowed for PE. Students must wear athletic sneakers and a t-shirt (sweatshirts are acceptable dependent on weather). The shirt must be appropriate. RIP, gang, and drug/alcohol related words are not acceptable. Failure to dress out will reflect in student participation grades.

Students may bring their own combination lock from home to use during their PE class. Due to limited lockers, students will not be assigned lockers but will be able to utilize a locker during their class to put their personal belongings in. Student locks will be cut off if the student does not remember their combination. Since locker room doors cannot be locked, students will be discouraged from bringing valuables to PE class. The PE department will not be responsible for lost or stolen items.

While safety is a primary concern for both instructors, accidents do happen. All students must be aware that injury or illness incurred during PE class must be reported immediately to his/her PE instructor to ensure that steps will betaken to care for the illness or treat the injury.

The following are just a few rules specific to physical education that will assist in creating a quality learning experience for all students.
