Meet the Staff

I’m so excited to be starting my first year as the 6th grade school counselor at Morningside Middle School! I am going on my 8th year as a middle school counselor and before that I was a first grade teacher. As a school counselor, my job is to help students feel supported academically, socially, and emotionally. That means I work with students one-on-one, in small groups, and in classrooms to build skills, encourage positive relationships, and make sure every student feels safe and valued. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with my bachelor’s degree and earned my Master’s in Counseling from the University of Texas. 

My role is to support students’ academic, emotional, and social well-being. I work one-on-one with students who are experiencing personal challenges, as well as on a larger scale to educate and support students around significant issues commonly faced during the middle school years.

This is my sixth year in Mustang Country, and I am elated to share that I am a proud graduate of a CCSD school—THEE Mighty Burke High School Bulldogs, Class of 1983! My own grade school and high school experiences inspired me to pursue post-secondary education, where I earned the following degrees:

• Associate Degree in Early Care and Education
• Bachelor of Arts in Human Services
• Master of Arts in Organizational Management and Leadership
• Master of Arts in School Counseling

These degrees were earned through Trident Technical College, South Carolina State University, Springfield College, and Liberty University.

I am proud to partner with and serve the incredible families, staff, and community of Morningside Middle School!

My role is centered on empowering parents to self-advocate and supporting families by meeting their unique needs. I do this by:

•    Meeting with families to assess needs and develop personalized plans that outline next steps
•    Connecting families with community resources
•    Conducting home visits in partnership with a member of our parenting team
•    Sharing information and guidance to support scholar and family success
•    Hosting workshops that offer life skills, parenting tips, and other supports to benefit the entire family
•    Providing encouragement and assistance whenever it’s needed

I am a proud Charleston native and a product of CCSD, having completed my K–12 education right here in the district. I am also a 1995 graduate of Burke High School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications from the College of Charleston and later obtained dual Master of Arts degrees in Management and Human Resource Management from Webster University.

For nearly 20 years, I have been actively involved in PTA/PTSA, School Improvement Council (SIC), and Parent Advisory Council (PAC) work. I have a genuine passion for helping others and find great joy in seeing families and scholars thrive.

I am the honored mother of two and grandmother of two, and family is at the center of everything I do. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, listening to music, reading, and watching TV—especially crime and medical shows, with a little reality TV mixed in! I am also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
